Bobby Dean Lacy "Brotha Bob"

Bobby Dean Lacy (Bubba) was born November 20, 1950, to Claude Lacy and Dessie McKinney Lacy, in San Angelo, Texas. He and his twin sister, Billie Jean (Sister) became close before being introduced to the world. Bobby stayed in the womb an extra three minutes to receive massive intelligence, soothing compassion, glowing personality, and unflinching perseverance. He joined other siblings that adored him--Claude Lacy, Jr., Jimmie Ruth, Bonnie Raye and John Edward. Our younger sister Shirley Jean became a member of the clan in later years.

Bobby Dean attended Hammond Elementary and Blackshear Jr. High and was always the smartest student in the class. He was Valedictorian of our 9th Grade class at graduation, May 1966. As a Central High School Student, he was president of our Pathfinders Social Club and Vice President of the Student Council. Upon graduation, in May 1969 he was in the top five percent of our class and earned a National Honor Society scholarship. While attending the University of Houston, he became a loving and loyal brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He and his brothers developed caring, lifelong relationships. Bobby loved his fraternity and spoke of his brothers many times.

Bobby and Willie D. Riggins were blessed with their precious Christopher Dean in 1973. Chris and his wife, LaShara, gave his father six grandchildren-Rae'-Ven, Niyah, Laila, Joseph, Jaquay Steen, and Randy Randoph. Also, Joseph gave his grandfather a great-great granddaughter, Addisyn Crawford. Chris and his family live in Richardson, Texas.

Bobby and Theresa Rollins were blessed with their precious Marlon Curran Rollins in 1974. Marlon and Temekia Porter gave his father a granddaughter, Ayshia Symone Rollins. Marlon is married to Angela, and they live in Dallas, Texas.

Bobby served five years in the U.S. Navy, touring on the U.S. Constellation ship for most of his stint in the military. He was stationed in Guam, Philippines, and San Diego California. He served his country well and always honored fellow Veterans with acts of kindness. Bobby and his wife, Denise, lived in San Diego during his time in Navy. Upon their divorce, he moved back to San Angelo in the early 1980s.

In his hometown, Bobby Dean began to soar! He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/English from Angelo State University. He became a dynamic and colorful Sports Caster at KLST Television. At the same time, Bobby was a contributing writer to the San Angelo Standard Times. He also started his business as a DJ, spinning playlists for social events and church activities in the community, Bobby became the Poet Laureate of the San Angelo Community. By request, he spoke at many, many funerals, writing poems and reciting specially composed tributes for the deceased.

Bobby and Kimberly Allen were blessed with their precious son, Justin D'Unique Lacy in 1986. Justin and his wife, Nephrateries Young, gave his father three grandchildren-Mahki Clifton, Mia Clifton, and Micah Harris. Justin and his family live in Jackson, Florida.

Bobby Dean served with his brother, Rev. John E. Lacy, Pastor, Christian Fellowship Baptist Church for twelve years, working with the Brotherhood and Media ministries in the early 2000s through 2015. He simultaneously implemented his "Brotha Bob" Sunday Morning Worship Program, burning CDs to donate and sell. Amazingly, Bobby started his own community newspaper, EBONY EYE, writing, editing, advertising, and distributing by himself. What an accomplishment. Bobby served with Galilee Baptist Church, Rev. John Pope, Pastor, working with the Brotherhood Ministry.

Bobby Dean passed away, Friday, April 12, 2024, leaving his earthly body to be with our heavenly Father. He knew that he would be with the Lord for eternity. His playlist and his last conversation alluded to his heavenly home. He is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Dessie; his brothers Claude Jr. (Willie Pearl) and John Edward and his sister Jimmie Ruth, along with his very special friend, Mrs. Doris Arnold.

He is survived by his loving special lady, Detra Green Harris; his sisters Bonnie Raye, Billie Jean, and Shirley Jean; his three sons, his 10 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his niece, Susan Torres, for the love and care she provided till the very end.
