Charles E. Carruth Jr. Charles E. Carruth Jr. passed away suddenly Monday, June 7, 2004 at the age of 79. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Rev. Grosse Mohler officiating. Burial will follow at the Knickerbocker Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Charlie was a lifelong resident of San Angelo and the First United Methodist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He began work at the San Angelo Telephone Company and retired from GTE Southwest after 41 years with the company. Charlie and Jimmie Anderson married in 1946 and enjoyed 49 years of marriage before her death. Jimmie and Charlie built a retirement home on Dove Creek in 1976 and became very active members of the Knickerbocker community. Charlie volunteered for the past 15 years for the AARP Tax Assistance Program. He helped restore the Knickerbocker Community Center and has been instrumental in maintaining the historic Knickerbocker Community Cemetery. Their son Ed Carruth preceded him in death in 1996. He is survived by his daughter Karen House, her husband Robert House and grandchildren Sam and Amanda House. In 1997 Charlie married Wynell Peel and instantly increased his family by adding children Van and Christine Waddill, Betty and L.D. Simon, Freddy Waddill, Billy and Linda Waddill. He also became Paw to grandchildren Shawna Waite, Chad, Kody, Kendra, Brandon and Devon Waddill, and Stacey and Lindsey Waddill. Bubba is survived by a sister Jessie Vines and husband Bill, and a brother James Parker and wife Carolyn. He was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Shields. He leaves two uncles Orlin and Wilson Joiner, many nephews and nieces, cousins and friends. In Lieu of flowers the family request that Memorials be made to the Knickerbocker Community Cemetery or your favorite charity.
