FRANK NOBLE VOGEL Frank N. Vogel, 100, of San Angelo, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in a local nursing home. Graveside service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 4, 2004 at Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Frank N. Vogel was born at Algerita, Texas, May 29, 1904, to Joseph A. Vogel and Alice Belle Roberds Vogel. He was married to Alice L. Horne in Brady, Texas on October 18, 1929. they moved to San Angelo in 1929 where Frank worked for his brother, Walter Vogel, at Ponton-Vogel Welding Shop. One year later, Frank and another brother, John M. Vogel, purchased the welding business that then became Vogel Welding & Machine Co. at 320 So. Oakes, in San Angelo. In 1949, Frank bought John's interest in the business and finally retired himself in 1989 at age 85 after sixty years. Mr. Vogel was a long time member of the Fife, Texas, Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge in San Angelo. Before his marriage, he was a professional baseball pitcher for the San Antonio Club in the old Texas League. His contract with the San Antonio Club was acquired by the Boston Red Sox, but Frank did not get to play in the Major League due to the fact he "threw out his arm" pitching a double-header for San Antonio in his last game with that club. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and four brothers. His wife, Alice Vogel, died in 1994. Mr. Vogel's survivors include his daughter, Bobbie Zane Petersen and her husband, H. Allen of Lake City, Colorado and Warren, of Pennsylvania, a son, Frank Val Vogel of San Angelo, a granddaughter, Sandy Davis McLaurin of San Angelo and a grandson, Bill V. Davis II and his wife, Rose, of Water Valley, Texas. He is also survived by three great grandsons, Cole and Taylor McLaurin and Will V. Davis III.
