GEORGE EDWARD SHELTON George Edward Shelton, age 79, peacefully met his maker in the early morning of May 22, 2004 due to complications from a stroke. He was born on September 10, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas. He was married to Marilynn May Davenport on April 3, 1948. He had been a resident of San Angelo since 1955. George graduated from The University of Texas in 1945 with a degree in pharmacy. He began his pharmacy career at Laurel Heights Pharmacy in San Antonio, then at Eagle Drug in Eagle Pass. He came to San Angelo to work for the Concho Drug Company and in 1956 bought the Concho Drug Store on Sherwood Way, renaming it Shelton Drug. He later owned and operated M-System Pharmacy and finally worked for the Wilkinson Family at Wilkinson Drug. After retirement he continued his pharmacy career working relief for pharmacists all across West Texas. He was active in the Texas Pharmaceutical Association serving on the Board of Counselors for many years; served West Texas Pharmaceutical Association as President; and the Concho Valley Pharmaceutical Association. He was a charter member of the West Side Optimist Club. George also served San Angelo on the Lake Board. He loved sailing, and was active with the Concho Yacht Club. He also loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, and was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife, Marilynn; children, Steven R. Shelton of League City, TX, C. Stuart Shelton and wife Rhonda, of Plano; and Kathy Vinson and husband Eugene, of Big Lake, TX, grandchildren Georgia Shelton, Steven R. Shelton Jr., Kevin Shelton, Dorothy Shelton, Barrett Shelton, Brooke Shelton, Matt Vinson, and Emily Vinson and step-grandchildren Candace, Samantha and Jessica. Brother in-law H.W. "Dick" Dickerson and wife Dottie. He was preceded in death by his mother Katheryn Thomas Bartlett. The family gives many thanks to the many compassionate caregivers who cared for Dad in his final days. Family Visitation will be 4:00 to 5:30 pm Sunday at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at11:00 AM Monday, May 24, 2004 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, the Rev. Grosse Mohler, Officiating. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Meals for the Elderly, or favorite charity.
