Gilbert De Hoyos Esqueda, 70, of San Angelo passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.


Gilbert was born on September 30, 1953 in Jimenez, Coahuila, Mexico to Salvador and Reynalda De Hoyos. Gilbert moved to Florida in 1970 and later lived in Nebraska before settling in San Angelo. He worked 35 years at BNSF Railroad as a machine operator. He met Margie Tellez in 1992, they have been in love ever since.


He loved fishing, going to casinos, and his music; dancing, and singing. Gilbert enjoyed watching WWE with his best friend, Roy, and hunting in his home town of Jimenez. Gilbert was a positive person with a strong will, and a silly nature. He would often find qualities in a person and give them a unique nickname. Gilbert was a walking GPS and could make all kinds of bird whistles. People loved to listen to his experiences from all the years traveling with the railroad. His dog, Xena, was his companion and loved going on rides with him


He is preceded in death by two sisters, Virtudes Casselberry and Idalia Lowe.


Gilbert is survived by his wife, Margie; Gilbert had 10 children, Amber De Hoyos of Nebraska, Damariz De Hoyos of Everett, Washington, Gilbert De Hoyos, Jr., Desiree De Hoyos, Gaston De Hoyos, Sarah De Hoyos, Juan Escobar, Joe Tellez, Mindy Tellez, and Mandy Porras all of San Angelo; four siblings, Glafiro De Hoyos of Jimenez, Coahuila, Mexico, Guadalupe Booker of San Angelo, Felicitas Park-Hill of Missouri, and Gildardo De Hoyos of Jimenez, Coahuila, Mexico; and 25 grandchildren.


Public viewing and visitation will be from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, April 15, 2024 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.
