LOIS LAVON WHITEFIELD STEVENS

Lois Lavon Whitefield Stevens, 68, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005 at the Hospice Midland Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Graveside service in San Angelo will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Fairmount Cemetery with Rev. George Lumpkin of St. Luke United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be held in Midland at 6:00 PM, Friday, May 13, 2005 at St. Mark United Methodist Church of Midland. Lavon was born May 12, 1936 in San Angelo to O.B. Fields, Jr. and Lucille High. Lois attended San Angelo ISD, Southwestern University in Georgetown receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree and her Masters in Applied Psychology from the University of Texas in the Permian Basin. She worked as a teacher for 16 years in the pubic schools systems in Austin, Houston, Channelview and Irving ISD, including eight years as a part-time teacher at Midland College. She enjoyed working as a volunteer with the Pink Ladies in Big Lake and as a Sunday school teacher for six years. Lavon worked in Midland as a Sunday school teacher for ten years, P.T.A., Crisis Prevention Hotline, Reach to Recover Cancer Group, Make Today Count Cancer Group, Hospice, Board of Batter Women's Shelter and Adult Literacy Council. Other groups she was a member of were ADPi Alumnae Association, Spice of Life Methodist Women's Group, Retired Teacher's Association, and TSTA. Lavon was an extraordinary person and will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Survivors are: Daughters:Holly Cohen and husband, Chris Trina Burns and husband, Paul Grandchildren:Justin Burns Quinton Burns Taylor Cohen Kyra Cohen All of Midland Susan Armstrong Of Bastrop, TX Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Armstrong Of Houston Mr. and Mrs. Mike Armstrong Ashley Armstrong Andrew Armstrong Blake Armstrong Of Carrollton, TX Memorials may be directed to the Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital, PO Box 2621, Midland, TX 79702, or Hospice of choice in her name.
