MARY GIBBS HILL

Mary Carolyn Duncan Gibbs Hill passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2005. The family will greet friends at Robert Massie Funeral home between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Services will be conducted by Pastor Jim Stanley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, at Robert Massey Funeral Home followed by burial at Fairmont Cemetery. Mary was born in San Angelo, Texas to Minnie Frances and Leon Polk Duncan of Knickerbocker. Orphaned at a young age, she was raised by her older sisters and brothers. She attended San Angelo public schools and continued at San Angelo College and TCU. Many will remember Mary's beautiful singing during her high school and college days. In 1946, she married Claude S. (Buddy) Gibbs III also of San Angelo. Mary and Buddy were happily married for 26 years and were loving parents to their three children. After Buddy's death in 1972, Mary returned to San Angelo to continue raising her daughter. She married Joseph F. Hill in 1984. Joe and Mary enjoyed travel, horse racing and dancing. When Joe passed away in 1988, she continued to enjoy her grandchildren, Western Swing events, and miniature horses. Blessed with a song in her heart, Mary never met a stranger and was always happy to help others. She was full of love for her family, her country, her music, and her pets. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mary was preceded in death by two husbands, Claude S. Gibbs III and Joseph F. Hill; four brothers James, Clifford, Charles, and John Duncan; and two sisters Mildred Duncan and Virginia Duncan Madison. Mary is survived by her sons, Claude S. (Sand) Gibbs IV and his wife Jennifer, Greg D. Gibbs and his wife Kathy, all of Austin; and daughter Debra Gibbs Mundell and her husband Jim of San Angelo. Other survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Duncan Moore of Dallas; six grandchildren Chris Gibbs of Atlanta; Blake, Laura, and Carolyn Gibbs of Austin; Clay and Seth Mundell of San Angelo; and nieces Dolly McKenna and husband, John of Washington D.C.; Annette Moore and husband Robert of Weatherford; Mildred Frances Hart of Dallas; and five great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Mary's doctors in Temple, Lubbock, and San Angelo, Hospice of San Angelo, and caregiver Laverne Morris for the love and support they gave Mary. Donations may be sent to Hospice of San Angelo, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
