Michael John Erickson, 70, of San Angelo passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at his residence after a long illness.

Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the VFW Fort Concho Post 1815, 125 S. Browning St., San Angelo, Texas 76903. with Mike Lukowiak, a family friend, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Erickson was born to Lennart and Mary (Kearns) Erickson on February 19, 1952 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Michael married Sarabeth Lynn Erickson on July 29, 1995 at Camp Tonkawa in Buffalo Gap.

Michael graduated from St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts in 1970. Michael honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1976 until his retirement on June 1998 as a Master Sergeant.

In 1991 Michael was selected by President George H. W. Bush's "1000 Points of Light", having been the 508th selection. Michael was extensively involved in the Boy Scouts of America serving as Den Leader, Pack Leader, Day Camp Advisor, College Commissioner, Trainer, and Scout Master. He proudly served as a camp cook at Camp Sol-Mayer, Camp Tonkawa and Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch (BTSR). He attended the National Jamboree as a Scoutmaster in 1993 and as a Food Distribution Specialist in 1997. Michael was a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow and received his Silver Beaver in January 2002.

Following his military career, Michael worked for the San Angelo Independent School District as a substitute teacher and as a librarian for 12 years at Fort Concho Elementary School. He served as a Central High School Bobcat Band Booster member and served as an officer of the Central High School Choir Boosters. In 1996, Michael served as a co-chair for Christmas at Old Fort Concho and experience he really enjoyed.

Michael's life was a life of service to God, country, family, and community.

Michael is survived by his wife, Sarabeth; his sister, Patricia "Pat" Ritchie of Worcester Massachusetts; his brother, Brian Erickson and his wife, Janice, of Berthoud, Colorado, his "sister from another mother", Easter Walden of San Angelo; his four children; Jefferson Gerald "J.G." Heidenheimer and his wife, Sara, of Pensacola, Florida, Wayne Lynn Heidenheimger and his wife, Heather, of Granbury, Sean Erickson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kerri Long and her husband, Jeremy, of Joshua; six grandchildren; Tyler Heidenheimer, Kaitlyn Heidenheimer, Zachary Heidenheimer, Ryan Heidenheimer, Jacob Kunert and Shaelee Kunert; Sister-in-law, Mildred McVean and husband Bill of Sierra Blanca; countless nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.

Michael was proceeded in death by his parents; his sister, Terry Erickson; by Sarabeth's parents, William "Bill" and Verna Lynn; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, ReVe' Lynn Ponder and Thomas "Tom" Ponder.

Special thanks to nurses, Judith and Seria, Chaplain Domingo and especially CNAs, Sam and Mercedes from Kindred Hospice and all the staff for their very special care of Michael.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Ditmore, Robert Garcia, Devin Koehler, Ray Leftwich, Gene Smith and Wynn Alston.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family asks for donations to be made to either the Boy Scouts of America, The American Cancer Society or the Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services.
