THE REV. RUSSELL ARTHUR SCHULTZ Fr. Russell Schultz died Sunday night, May 2, 2004, in the Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Kenedy, Texas. He had been in residence at the John Paul II Nursing Home in Kenedy, Texas, since July 1999. Fr. Schultz was born in Chicago, Ill., on July 9, 1940. His parents, who preceded him in death, were Russell Lawrence and Sally Schultz. His brother, Larry Schultz and sister, Sharon Leff survive him. Fr. Schultz was ordained a priest on March 26, 1966, by Cardinal Ritter in St. Louis. His assignments in the San Angelo Diocese were parochial vicar at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart in San Angelo from Sept. 14, 1966, to Sept. 6, 1968; study at Fordham University in New York City from Sept. 5, 1968, to Aug. 25, 1971; parochial vicar of Sacred Heart Church in Abilene from Aug. 26, 1971, to March 29, 1972; pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Menard from May 30, 1972, to Jan. 15, 1975, pastor of St. Margaret Church in San Angelo from January 16, 1975, to March 20, 1979; pastor of St. Joseph Church in Odessa from March 21, 1979, to June 1, 1981; pastor of St. Lawrence Church in St. Lawrence from June 2, 1981, to June 28, 1983. Fr. Schultz was on medical leave from Aug. 1, 1983, to July 31, 1988. He was then assigned as priest in charge of St. Joachim Church in Clyde from Aug. 1, 1988, to March 1, 1990. Prior to entering the John Paul II Nursing Home, Fr. Schultz was in residence in several nursing homes in south Texas, beginning with Padua Place in San Antonio, Texas, from 1994 to 1998. A rosary and wake service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday evening, May 6, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Bishop Michael D. Pfeifer, OMI, will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with priests of the Diocese concelebrating, at 10 a.m. Friday, May 7, at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial will be next to his mother in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception at Christ the King Retreat Center after the burial.
