Archie Leonard "Al" Smith, 79 of San Angelo passed away on May 9, 2023.
Public viewing will be from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Robert Massie Funeral Home with family visitation from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 15, 2023 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Pastor Bobby Roger and Pastor Kevin McSpadden, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born June 2, 1943 in Goose Creek to John Thomas and Sybil (Jones) Smith. He married the love of his life, Edna, on September 1, 1978. They spent 38 years together before her passing in 2017. Al was a veteran that served in the US Army as a communication specialist during the Vietnam war. He was a purple heart recipient. Al was a heavy equipment operator for Atmos for approximately 30 years, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time outside.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, John Wayne Smith and Thomas Eugene Smith and his wife.
Al is survived by his three children, Tina Nixon and husband Gary of San Angelo, Tammy Christall and husband Craig of Tuscola, and Rodney Barkis and girlfriend, Sonya Burkhalter of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Trey Thompson, Clayton Duncan and wife Miranda, Jacob Thompson, Casey Christall and wife Emily, Nathan Barkis and Taylor Christall; and three great-granddaughters, Rayne Thompson, Kree Duncan, and Kimber Crossman.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and honorary pallbearers will be his nephew, Troy Smith and his good friend, James Eaton.
