Guadalupe Trevino

"El mundo no se acaba, se acaba para el que se muere." The world does not ever end; it ends for the one that passes away."
This was one of his favorite quotes and he would always remind us - "Make memories because that is all we left at the end."
Jose Guadalupe "Lupe" Trevino passed away on June 15, 2021, at the age of 86 years old. Lupe will be lovingly remembered by his children: Joe (Thelma), Pete (Connie), Arnulfo (Dina), Jesse (Lisa), and Mary (Johnny). He will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Cassandra (Ruben), Jessica (Luis), Rosita (James), Adrianna (Isaac), Christopher, Gabbriella (Albert), and Toby His great-grandchildren Elyana, Alessandra, Jazmyn, Westin, Guadalupe, Tomas, Ariel, Jesse, Gabriel, and Kristian will always treasure his memory.

Lupe was born in Melchor Musquiz, Coahuila on July 7, 1934, to Jose and Romula Trevino. At a very young age, Lupe started his passion of caring for livestock by becoming a sheepherder in the mountains by Musquiz. From here, he grabbed every opportunity to follow his passion but also opportunities for a better life. His journey took him to Sterling City, Texas where he worked for Mr. Claude Collins Jr. at the 7D Ranch and the Lower Ranch.

On his life journey, he met Maria Theresa Barrientos when they were both very young but years later, he ran into her again and their love story began. That love story produced a beautiful family of five - four boys and one girl. Both Lupe and Maria Theresa wanted a better life for their children, so they sacrificed everything to move to Sterling City and the making of memories began.

Lupe not only left a legacy with his family as being a role model of breaking barriers in learning English and always working hard for your family but also eventually becoming the ranch foreman for Mr. Claude Collins Jr. A very special moment that brings a lot of pride to our family is when he was the first Hispanic allowed to enter and eat at the City Café in Sterling City. Another memorable event was the time the West Texas Boys Ranch conferred the title of Honorary Citizen to him on October 3, 1963. The West Texas Livestock Weekly magazine featured him and his construction of the corral at the Lower Ranch. Lupe was not only a mirror to show who we are but also a window to show all the opportunities available for us.

As soon as someone mentioned the name - Lupe, people's first reaction was, "He is always smiling. He is good people. He is a sweet man." No matter what he was going through, he always smiled. Always.

A smile for all and a heart of gold.
One of the best this world could hold.
Never selfish, always kind.
A beautiful memory left behind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose & Romula Trevino, his siblings Josefa, Pedro, Alejandro, and Esthela and his wife of 49 years Maria Theresa. We know they were all at the gates of heaven waiting to embrace him and see his smile again. Mom would be waiting with her high heels on ready to dance with him and he would be ready to dance with her to the song "Un Rinconcito en el Cielo" by Ramon Ayala.

The Trevino Family invites all family, friends, and members of the community to join them for visitation on June 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Robert Massie Funeral Home and for the rosary that will be at 6:00 p.m. on June 22 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home as well. The funeral mass will be on Wednesday, June 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church with burial following at the Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

The Trevino family would like to thank everyone that has been there for our daddy and for all the prayers and condolences given during this difficult time. We also want to thank Araceli who through the program of DADS helped him to continue living independently but also provided him friendship all these past years.
