Martha Genevieve Clifton

Martha Genevieve (Day) Clifton, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 3:44 AM in San Angelo.

Public Viewing 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, January 13, 2021, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Private Graveside Services will be for family and close friends at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Services to be officiated by her "sweet" Pastor Laken Mariano.

Martha was born at the family home in Lawton, Oklahoma on January 27, 1931 to O. D. "Buddy" and Nona (Owens) Day. She attended Lawton High School where she sang in the school Chorale. In July 1948, she married Billy Don Clifton. They moved to Burkburnett for Billy's career in the grocery business with Kraft Foods. In 1957 they moved to San Angelo, and they never left. Martha was a "stay at home" Mother to five children, whom she cared for with a soft and loving heart. She was a member of College Hills Baptist Church since 1958; and upon her passing, her membership date made her the oldest living member. In 1968 she went to work for GTE, retiring then in 1991 after 23 years. She followed in the footsteps of her aunt Imogene and began painting China. She won over 20 Blue Ribbons and "Best of Show" over the years at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. She was a member of the San Angelo China Club, serving for years as the Club's Secretary. For over 14 years, Martha sang as an Alto in the San Angelo Symphony Chorale. In her caring manner, Martha always loved animals. She had two pet peacocks named Alex and Sophie, and a dog she adored named Simply. Her heart always cried when she saw a puppy! Her greatest love was her many grandchildren.

Those who went before her include her husband, Bill Clifton; her parents, O. D. and Nona Day; her brothers, Billy Joe Day, and O. D. Day, Jr.; and her sister, Patricia Day Leippe.

Martha is survived by her children, Kandace Pool, Kelly Clifton and wife Sandy, Marta Brock and husband Robert, Mark Clifton and wife Linda, and Tracey Payne and husband Joe; 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
