Winnie Cunningham

Winnie Lee Cunningham went to live with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, January 18, 2021.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens on Friday, January 22, 2021, at 12 noon with Kerry Peacock officiating and coordinated by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Born Winnie Lee Swindle on January 27, 1930 to Dewey T. and Josie Swindle on a small farm in Concho County, outside of Eola, TX. Winnie and her twin sister Minnie were the youngest of 5 daughters. The girls worked on the farm while attending Eola School through graduation from High School. She and Minnie were members of the Eola High School Championship Volleyball Team in 1946.

Winnie married her High School sweetheart, Leon J. Cunningham on May 23, 1948 in Eola, TX. She loved him for 63 years until his death on July 11, 2011. She enjoyed all kinds of crafting, sewing, making yoyo dolls, painting, and coloring. She had a very green thumb and loved her flowers and gardening. She was an excellent cook and always fed us so well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Kathleen Swindle, Frankie Deene Roberson, Inez Goerdel, Minnie Young, and her husband, Leon J. Cunningham.

She is survived by her daughter Lavonne K. Humphrey, and husband Jimmy of Kinsland, TX, daughter Donna J. Leachman, and husband Bruce of Seiling, OK, granddaughter Neisha L. Jones of Pasadena, TX, grandson Chad D. Jones and wife Lori of Friendswood, TX., and grandson Lucas J. Humphrey and wife Lauren of Weatherford, TX. She is also survived by 3 great-grandkids, Trevor, Jackson and Lindy, and several awesome nieces and nephews.

Our Mama/MeeMee was a hoot and a delight to be around. She was as sweet as they come and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

We want to give a heartfelt, special thanks to the staff of Oaks Nursing Center in Burnet, TX, for the kind and wonderful care you gave our Mama. Words really cannot express our gratitude for you.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Hope Initiative, PO Box 5071, Kingwood, TX 77325 or online at newhopeinitiative.kindful.com in memory of her.
